National Blood Service:
The NBS commissioned a strategic review in order to ensure that they were meeting their obligations under disability discrimination legislation. John and Phil were assisted by Mary-Anne Rankin, Disability Consultant.
The methodology used by John and Phil consisted of:
• A series of briefing meetings,
• Semi-structured meetings with nominated NHS managers and other professional staff
• Consideration of policies, for example those relating to absence management and recruitment
• Various site visits
Their report made recommendations across a wide range of subjects including:
• Staff retention and recruitment
• NBS office buildings and accessibility
• Access for donors and donor selection
